Gamesa-Quaker presents its Climate Change Environmental Sustainability Strategy

• Presents its new environmentally friendly packaging, especially designed to degrade in a 3 to 5 year period, launched with its Stila bars.
  
• The company will invest $190 million Mexican pesos in the next three years on its Environmental Sustainability Strategy.
  
• The strategy will allow the company to reduce 25 % of its emissions and 25 % of its water consumption in 5 years.
  
  

Mexico, D.F., on June 17th ,2009- During the presentation of its Environmental Sustainability Strategy, aligned with  global and national efforts to fight climate change, Gamesa-Quaker announced the environmentally friendly transformation of its Stila bars packaging.

José Luis Prado, President of Gamesa-Quaker, explained that the Environmental Sustainability Strategy comes from the same vision of sustainable business set forth by PepsiCo, Performance with Purpose, which unites a successful performance with the improvement of the communities in which it operates, always in plain respect of nature and valuing its collaborators in a diverse and inclusive environment.

The President of Gamesa-Quaker emphasized before mass media and representatives of governmental, academic and organized civil society sectors, that " the leadership that Mexico has assumed on environmental commitments forces all Mexicans to act in consequence ", adding the company he heads to the Federal Government’s efforts to fight climate change  and reduce 50% of the country’s carbon dioxide emissions by the year 2050.

Gamesa-Quaker will invest in the next 3 years 190 millions of Mexican pesos in the four pillars that comprise its Environmental Sustainability Strategy: a) Resources Conservation Program; b) Waste Management; c) Environmental Management Systems in Production Plants, and d) Reduction of Emissions.

With the sustainable action of Gamesa-Quaker in these 4 pillars, which include manufacture processes, chain of supply and strategic actions with allies, the reduction of 25% of its CO2 emissions and 25% of its water consumption will be guaranteed, through an integral strategy that allows the company to be a part of the solution to the climate change problem.

Furthermore, conscious that global warming constitutes a problem that needs to be fought together with other sectors, Gamesa-Quaker established an alliance with Pronatura México, a civil society organization dedicates towards the conservation of natural resources, with the purpose of implementing effective and integral solutions.

Pronatura’s General Director, Mr. Martín Gutiérrez Lacayo, described the sustainable forest management, restoration and conservation project to be developed together with the company, which in turn will contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions through the acquisition of carbon capture certificates.
