Mexican CO2 Calculator
Pronatura México, together with Reforestamos México and the Instituto Nacional de Ecología (National Ecology Institute) have joined efforts to combat global warming.
The three organizations are currently working on the creation of a calculator that quantifies carbon dioxide emissions (CO2): in this way, the Mexican population will have for the first time the possibility to measure what he or she generates in CO2 emissions in their daily life (transportation and electricity).
Many similar calculators already exist in countries like the United States, such as the Safe Climate calculator, but the one presented here is the first designed specifically for Mexico using local emission factors.
The Mexican CO2 emissions calculator will be ready this summer. It can be visited at each of the home pages of the involved organizations. Besides quantifying emissions, the calculator will also promote two alternatives for people to take action against Global Warming: Reduce and/or Mitigate. People who are interested in reducing their emissions are presented with suggestions of things that each one of us can do at home, at work and transportation to combat climate change; mitigation on the other hand is channeled through contributions to reforestation projects with the purpose of reducing CO2 emissions through carbon sequestration.
