First National Forum on Fair Trade and Organic Production
First National Forum on Fair Trade and Organic Production
"Meeting point for distributors, producers, responsible consumers and all who seek alternatives in the fair trade and organic market."

This is how this first national forum on Fair Trade and Organic Production is presented, driven by Pronatura Mexico. The event will take place at the "Cultural Siqueiros Polyforum" (south part of Insurgentes Avenue), both as a forum and an exhibition.

The forum will take place on the 29th-30th of September, offering: thematic work groups, conferences, workshops focusing on marketing, production, responsible consumption, fair and organic market alternatives, as well as the articulations and actions of social networks, leaving as a proposal the exhibition and marketing of products and services, handicrafts, tourism, business and financial services and more.

To better understand the goal of this forum on Fair Trade, it is necessary to realize that this movement’s principle is based on the establishment of just relations between producers and consumers as a way to achieve the development of producer communities, as their livelihoods are improved upon receiving a fair price for their products.

This implies the variation in trade relations with developed and emerging countries where in the first place we have the distributor and in a second place the producers. On top of this, a base price is established that covers the production costs plus a fair trade premium (prize) which is destined for diverse local community development projects.

Pronatura Mexico contributes to local development such as the capacity building workshops that took place in some Guanajuato communities with the goal of strengthening local knowledge on Xoconostle cultivation and processing, sustainable management of goat cattle and the elaboration of organic compost with the idea of inserting these products within marketing channels.

Likewise, through green procurement practices, it is intended that a portion of those purchases are certified organic and fair trade agricultural products. In this case, Pronatura Mexico could act as a distributor of these products.
